Miss Gertrude appears to have an active role in some type of monitoring or spirit-related operation on N Serene Ln (the street that, despite its quiet appearance, is home to the most gossipers in the neighborhood). She lives across the street from Miatta and literally keeps popping up like a bad WI-FI signal every time there is movement at her front door.
This morning, as Miatta received her packages from Amazon Fresh, Miss Gertrude, holding on tightly to her fence, yelled, “Didn’t you buy groceries from ShopRite yesterday? Or is it the boujee version of food you want today? I guess your sons like your cooking.”

Miatta thought about “letting her have it”, but considered that she was an older lady who deserved some respect. Right then, Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone,” came to her mind.
She immediately controlled her reaction. Smiling, she waved at Miss Gertrude, greeted her, and then took her packages inside. She did not snap back.
Takeaway: Don’t drain yourself on empty words. Save those snapbacks. Let’s enjoy that Shalom Jesus has provided for us.
