Love, Lies and Lemon Pies

Inspired by Psalm 120:2 (NLT)

Malik and Marcy Afton were 65 and 60 years old, inextricably drawn to each other, and regrettably surrounded by faces who celebrated their downfall more than their progress.

The picturesque township of Sasspoint Village had long been a ground for lingering rumors, and their marriage became the gossip buffet no one skipped, mainly because of their ages. About a month ago, this Real Estate royalty with a Rolodex of zip codes was the town’s most eligible bachelor.

Marcy was not an original of Sasspoint Village. She lived about a hundred miles away. She met Malik a year earlier at her town’s annual fair, where she was the organizer. His love for lemon pies drew them together, and he offered her his last name. She was hated because she “held herself like royalty rehearsed in silence” and “giving, ‘you’ll never guess’ energy.”

Even the unpolluted air seemed to carry commentaries about them. Lies. One person gossiped, “She married him because he is very wealthy.” Someone else whispered, “I heard she chanted some spells in his lemon pie.

Malik and Marcy prayed together against lying lips and deceitful tongues. Psalm 120:2 became their daily declaration, amongst other prayers. Gradually, the air cleared, and the town became receptive to their love. The lemon pie conspiracy theories, the doubters, and the decievers couldn’t destroy what God had destined.

Takeaway: Trust that God sees, hears, and defends – even when a whole town doesn’t.
