Scripture:
Titus 3:1 (KJV)
“Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work.”
Meet Miss Vernetta Jones, lifelong believer, Bible study enthusiast, and part-time over-interpreter.
After last Sunday’s sermon, she left the church with a notebook full of passion and one bold line highlighted in pink:
“Be subject to principalities and powers.”
By Monday, Miss Vernetta was ready to apply the Word.
Unfortunately, her interpretation was… let’s say, spiritually misplaced.
On Tuesday, her neighbor caught her saying, “Good morning, devil. You’re still defeated, but manners matter.”
“Excuse me?” Sister LueElla blinked.
“Well,” Vernetta huffed, “the Bible says respect the principalities!”
LueElla put her hand on her hip and replied, “Honey, that verse was about the mayor, not the monster.”
By Thursday, Miss Vernetta had learned two lessons:

Always check context.

Never start your morning with confusion and courtesy.
Now she’s back to her usual self — strong coffee, good wig, and no unnecessary greetings to fallen angels.
“Know Who You’re Saluting”
Not all “powers” shine.
Obey truth, not every voice.
Discern who you serve.
Truth Revealed:
God calls us to respect structure, not surrender to darkness.
Titus 3:1 was written for civic obedience — not spiritual submission.
When context is ignored, comedy (and confusion) follows.

Ask your circle tonight:
“Have I ever misheard God because I didn’t read the full verse?”
