Bryony didn’t attend church last week. She needed a moment. A quiet morning. A latte with oat milk and a long walk down four blocks. She convinced herself, “God understands. Nehemiah said, ‘Eat the fat and drink the sweet.” So she did.
But when the choir was lifting praise and the Spirit was stirring, her silence didn’t satisfy. Her coffee didn’t carry the comfort. And her solitude? It was peaceful – but not Shalom.
“Then he said unto them, ‘ Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.’” Nehemiah 8:10
Don’t ghost the gathering this week. Your latte is lovely, but God’s joy is layered. Show up. Sip joy. Glow together.
